Sabyinyo is Rwanda's first ever community owned lodge.
The lodge was built and developed through a partnership facilitated by the African Wildlife Foundation ("AWF") and the International Gorilla Conservation Program ("IGCP") its partner in Rwanda, with the local communities—represented by Sabyinyo Community Livelihoods Association (also known as SACOLA)—and a private-sector operator Governor's Camp. The goal of the collaboration is to provide income to fund development projects for the local community decided on by the local community and to conserve the highly endangered Mountain Gorilla. The ownership of the lodge rests with the Community Trust which receives income from the lodge and provides employment to the local people. The income is used to drive socio-economic development, wildlife conservation and eco-toursim development in the area.
Located adjacent to the National Volcano Park (Parc National des Volcans) in North Western Rwanda home of Rwanda's Gorilla's in the Mist and one of the most beautiful places in Africa. This stunning high-end conservation lodge provides an opportunity for guests to experience the local wildlife and African conservation all at once.
