My Tanzania Trip - Into the Heart of East Africa

I’ve just returned from an unforgettable month in Tanzania, and I’m excited to share highlights from the trip that truly showcased why this destination belongs at the top of any adventurer’s bucket list - and why where you stay matters just as much as where you go.

Tanzania is a land of emotional contrast and raw beauty. Vast open plains stretch endlessly to the horizon, broken only by acacia trees and rocky outcrops. Days unfold with the rhythm of nature—early morning game drives, quiet afternoons, glowing sunsets, and nights filled with the sounds of the wild.

This journey wasn’t just about wildlife sightings (though those were extraordinary, I have never seen so many lions in trees or 13+ Rhinos in the Ngorongoro Crater); it was about place, people, and the camps that turn a safari into something truly transformative.

Thoughtful Lodges and World Class Hospitality

Throughout the trip, I stayed at a variety of safari lodges and tented camps, each offering a unique sense of place while maintaining impeccable standards of comfort and service that Tanzania is known for. Stunning views, beautifully designed spaces, and warm, attentive staff made every stay feel special.

Many of these properties are deeply committed to sustainability—supporting local communities, preserving ecosystems, and ensuring that tourism has a positive, lasting impact.

One of the most exciting aspects of my time was experiencing some of the newest and most distinctive camps in Tanzania, including Out of Africa Legend Camp, Grumeti Art Lodge, as well as Osonjoi Lodge—each offering a unique take on safari hospitality.

Out of Africa Legend Camp

The new Out of Africa Legend Camp, located in Central West Serengeti, captures the romance of classic safari (Think Out of Africa the movie) while delivering modern comfort and thoughtful design. Inspired by early explorers and the golden age of African travel, the camp is beautifully understated, allowing the surrounding landscape to take center stage.

Spacious, elegant tents are positioned for privacy and sweeping views, creating an immersive sense of being truly connected to the wild. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, with attentive service that feels personal rather than formal. Evenings around the fire, dining under the stars, and the natural rhythm of safari life made this camp feel timeless and deeply authentic.

Grumeti Art Lodge

Grumeti Art Lodge, set on a hill in Grumeti - West Serengeti  is a celebration of East African creativity, blending safari travel with art, culture, and design. Each space is curated, with artwork and architectural details that reflect the region’s heritage and contemporary artistic expression. The result is a lodge that feels soulful and distinctive—perfect for travelers who appreciate creative design and meaningful storytelling alongside their safari adventure.

It’s an inspiring option for guests seeking something beyond the traditional safari aesthetic while still enjoying exceptional guiding and access to incredible wildlife.

Osonjoi Lodge

Osonjoi Lodge, set on eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater,  was another standout, redefining luxury through simplicity, space, and location. Designed to immerse guests in the dense montane forest with views across the Crater, Osonjoi offers a sense of tranquility and exclusivity.

The design is refined yet natural, allowing views, light, and silence to be part of the experience. Exceptional guiding, service, and attention to detail elevate every moment—from game drives to quiet mornings taking in views of the Crater below.

Cultural Connections That Matter

What unites these new camps is a shared commitment to conservation, sustainability, and community engagement. These camps demonstrate that luxury travel can—and should—support local ecosystems and people while delivering unforgettable experiences.

One of the most meaningful aspects of the trip was engaging with local communities. Learning about traditions, daily life, and the role tourism plays in education and conservation added powerful context to the journey.  These moments reminded me that Tanzania’s magic isn’t only found in its landscapes and wildlife—but in its people.

I have always believed there is a camp for everyone.  Matching the right traveler to the right experience is what it is all about—and that knowledge simply can’t come from brochures or tradeshows alone. That's why it is so important to do these trips so that I have first hand understanding of how each camp feels, how they differ, and who they are best suited for.
